worship center beams coming out

The steel upbeams that used to hold up the west end of our building are in the middle of our expanded worship center and thus they must come out. A much larger (35,000 lbs) crossbeam was laid across the top of the west end of the building and the old crossbeam was welded to it. With the welding complete, the upbeams can be removed--of course it's when you take out the upbeams that you find out how well the cross beams were welded together! Fortunately, the beams came out without any problems.

NEHBC construction update

• The down stair's bathrooms will be completed by the end of August which means we can get rid of the outside "comfort station" by the end of the month. This week, the new counters are going in as the tile work is finished up.
• The flooring in the preschool and children's halls will go in next week.
• The exterior wall of the church on the south side of the building (field side) will be completed in 10 work days. All that's left is the stucco section, the down spouts, and redoing the playground area.
• In the worship center, the wall behind the stage and the ceiling is coming out as I type. Very soon all the carpet will come out as well as it will be a fire hazard with all the welding that's fixing to happen in the worship center.
• Soon, the painting of the lobby will begin.
• This Sunday will be the last one with our current sound booth.
• Our current sound system comes out next week. We'll be on a "nice" portable sound system for a few weeks and then the new system will go in the new worship center.

Construction Update

We met this morning with the architect and builder for an update and here is some news that will impact our church family:

1. Weather permitting, this coming Friday we are drilling the piers for the worship center expansion.
2. Next week, underground work for the worship center will take place (running cable/electricity/etc conduit).
3. Which would mean we are pouring concrete the following week (week of May 3).
4. Steel should go up May 24.

Also, the week of May 17, less than 30 days away, there will be significant demo work on the first floor. By that I mean the admin office area is getting taken out, the 1st floor bathrooms will be taken out, 1st floor carpet will be ripped up, etc. We will have temporary, but very nice bathroom facilities outside (like at Redstone) and the upstairs bathrooms.
