Yesterday and today have been really busy with zero time to post anything on here, but here are some thoughts I'm thinking:
- Get in the Game Sunday we had major logistical errors in the worship center due to unforeseen sound issues that were out of our control and communication errors with participants in the services which had me more than a little distracted, but nonetheless the Lord moved in the hearts of NEHBCers and we had many in our church family commit to serve our church body for the next 12 months. I will never be satisfied until 100% of our church family is serving the body, but compared to research about the average numbers of people who serve in churches in general, NEHBC is doing really well. Compared to human standards, we do very well, compared to God's standard, we fall short of His glory.
- In staff meeting yesterday I was reminded by the Lord what a great staff we have.
- Breakthrough, our monthly church wide prayer gathering, was really beneficial. We had a good number of people prayer walking our facility, praying for our various ministries. Breakthrough ended with a BUNCH of people in the worship center as we anointed a NEHBCer with oil and prayed for healing of cancer.
- Meanwhile as Breakthrough was taking place, NEHBCers were also down at Farrington Mission feeding the hungry, clothing the poor, and teaching ESL. We had our greatest night yet since launching the mission in June as we fed and clothed 39 families--not people, families--and the ESL grew to where we have to multiply the class into two!
- I wrapped up the message for midweek worship tomorrow and I'm pumped as we continue our Leviticus journey: God's plan for finding a soul satisfying life, part ii: the nature of our relationship with the people around us. (We discovered last week the critical role of sexual purity for the married and unmarried in God's plan for a soul satisfying life--listen to the podcast on iTunes or the MP3 at www.nehbc.com before midweek worship tomorrow.)
- Our widows gathering this morning was really meaningful for me. I love these ladies dearly. Our new apprentice-pastor, Adam, shared his testimony with them, then I shared a devotional and challenged each one of them to pray for a young Christian lady in our church whom they can mentor--Titus 2:1ff. Then we did the ministry of encouragement and wrote letters to some people in our church family, then we had prayer time, and then we went to lunch. The Lord is strengthening and growing our widow ministry.
- This afternoon I met with a man about college ministry and a tremendous opportunity that has opened up to share God's Word with hundreds of college students on a weekly basis. I'm seeking God's will.
- Oh, yes, and I'm breaking in the new apprentice-pastor who is off to a great start. We are still getting to know each other and laying the foundation of our relationship, but I'm already feeling good about this year of the program.
