Thoughts I'm Thinking

Today, I'm getting in some really good study time in Acts 13 for this coming Sunday at NEHBC. I'm excited to see what the Lord will do in our lives when we encounter Him in this particular passage of Scripture.

I'm thankful to be preaching the fall revival for my former church in Normangee, Texas. When I pastored this church, I didn't have a clue about what I was doing, but they patiently and gracefully let me be their pastor and for that I will forever be grateful. I learned so much at Union Baptist Church. Nicole and the kids joined me for the first night this week so we could see our friends and it has truly been a sweet time of fellowship. We have friends here who are like family.

Tonight, I'm preaching at TRUTH in Huntsville, Texas. I'm looking forward to hanging out with the Sam Houston State U students.

Thursday cometh. Nicole leaves on a mission team to begin church planting in Greece. Except for preaching on Sunday, I'm taking vacation time to stay home with the kids. In my heart I know it's the right thing to do; afterall, how is Nicole supposed to do Acts 1:8 if I don't stay home with the kids? However, in my flesh I'm flipping out. In our system, Nicole is the primary care giver and frankly I don't have a clue about things I should have a clue about when it comes to administering medicine, who likes what to eat, etc. Not to mention, I don't have the patience or nurturing skills she does. She will be gone 10 days. She has typed out 14 pages of notes for me and fixed many meals and frozen them so all I have to do is thaw and heat. Also, she has all their clothes laid out and marked for when each set should be worn. I'm planning on (video)blogging the 10 days and calling it Survivor Dad. You will get to see the 3am vomit clean ups. We will also be making the drive up to Lufkin to watch a high school football game. My biggest worry is fixing the girls' hair--I simply don't get it. Nicole will get to see how we are doing without her from internet cafes in Greece.

It seems like we are finally making good progress in our search for a new Associate Pastor to Adults. We may well have found God's man for NEHBC. He and his wife are empty nesters and have been living in Mississippi.

Tomorrow is See You At The Pole. I hope Christian students everywhere rise to the occassion to pray publicly for their schools.

I love NEHBC. I really do. It's heavy on my mind. I hope that when I hang it up in three decades, that I'll be doing so at NEHBC. I can't bring myself to imagine pastoring anywhere else. I love y'all and I love being your pastor. Yesterday, I got to help a rancher do some very minor tasks with his cows--they are having calves and a young mother is due any time to have her first one. But she has disappeared and I went with this 70 year old rancher to find her. As we rode through his herd, he spoke affectionately about his cows, telling me their habits, how much he likes running cows, etc. He spent a lot of time looking for the wayward heifer. It was really good for me to watch him do physically with his herd what I'm called by God to do spiritually with my flock. The Lord used the experience to refresh me and renew me.
