trying to raise a daughter to love the great commission

The next 10 days will be interesting for my family. After our worship services on Sunday, I head to a youth/college camp for the week to serve as camp pastor and will return in time for services at NEHBC the following Sunday. Meanwhile, today, Nicole and the kids leave for a whirlwind trip of visiting family, friends, but whose main purpose is to give Campbell her first taste of a mission trip. Nicole and the kids are staying at my sister's house in Dallas and then just Nicole and Campbell will drive up to Tulsa, OK, to meet up with NEHBC's mission team for a couple of days.

When Colton was four, the Lord worked it out to where he and I got to spend a couple of days going door-to-door with one of our mission teams in Arkansas and the experience profoundly impacted him. He still talks about it on a regular basis and has not stopped asking to go again "on a mission trip not in Houston". Next year he will be seven and I think he'll be ready to join me on an international mission trip. We are praying for the same thing to happen to Campbell. She is four years old and Nicole and I feel like it's time to get her involved in missions outside our city. We also feel like it's really important for Nicole in particular to take Campbell on her first trip in order to model what a Godly woman does. When Campbell is much older we want her to be able to look back and realize that even when mommy had four small children, gospel advancement and missions mattered deeply to mommy. Campbell will have plenty of opportunity to do missions with her daddy down the road, but these moments with mommy will impact her much more deeply, I believe.

So much has had to come together for Nicole to take Campbell on this trip. A big thank you to my sister and bro-in-law for looking after our other three in addition to their three. Nicole has really had to work hard to get ahead on her responsibilities at the church and work through other big issues on her plate in order to leave town and provide this crucial opportunity for Campbell. I'm thankful to the Lord for setting this up. I'm thankful for a Great Commission wife.

Of course, I'll see how thankful I really am in September when I take a couple weeks of vacation time to take care of the four kids while Nicole goes with a team to try and plant a church in Greece. I might be downplaying the Great Commission family thing at our house for a while. ;)
