For about 90 days now, the daily countdown has been marked on a dry erase board in my office under the sign "Vaya Con Dios". The countdown stands at 21 days. That's how long it is until my current apprentice-pastor's year with me ends. 3 weeks from today, Adam will return to Fort Worth and resume his formal studies at The College at Southwestern, an outstanding undergraduate program in Fort Worth, Texas, for those preparing for ministry.
I'm really going to miss Adam when he leaves. When you spend a year with someone in such an intense relationship, a very unusual bond forms. I feel equal parts pastor-mentor-friend to him. Like his predecessor in the program, Blayne, we'll have a unique, lifelong bond. We have lived life together, seeing each other at our best and worst, in victory and defeat, in strength and weakness. I love him and believe God will use Adam greatly to advance His Kingdom. He will make an outstanding pastor someday. I'm grateful the Lord gave me the privilege to disciple Adam in this fashion for a year.
