NEHBC's summer midweek ministry to K-5th graders, designed to educate and
mobilize them for missions, is amazing me. I first caught on to how well it
is going when I overheard my 1st and 2nd grader saying Arabic words at home.
Then over dinner one evening, my 1st grader explained to her 8 year old
cousin about Muslims-when they pray, how they pray, where they pray, to whom
they pray. She also told her cousin how much we love people who are Muslims.
My 2nd grader explained the IMB's Project Northern Lights (PNL) that
distributes thousands of bibles and Jesus Films to Muslims and my 1st grader
asked Nicole and I to take her to participate in PNL. Last night, there were
stations set up in a hallway representing the Arabic countries of North
Africa and kids pretended they were at PNL, even loading up a "car" to the
gills to represent a car packed with goods travelling from Europe to North
Africa. The kids are having an absolute ball at Kids on Mission. Not only
are they clearly getting a great missions education, but they are excited
about it and it's definitely generating family wide discussions about
cross-cultural missions in our home. As parents, Nicole and I are so
grateful to those who are making Kids on Mission so good. As a pastor, I'm
thrilled to know we are putting missions into the spiritual DNA of our
youngest NEHBCers. Parents, if your K-5th graders are not in Kids on Mission
on Wednesday nights from 7-8pm, they are missing a tremendous discipleship
opportunity. Love our City, Love the World.
