already pace setters for the church in their commitment to our church body.
Today, they took their pace setting to another level. During our gathering,
I went around the room and had each of the ladies tell us if they pledged to
serve our church body on Get in the Game Sunday and to share where they
pledged to serve from August 2011-July 2012. Only one lady had not turned
her card in and that's because she was out sick on Sunday and she turned one
in today. So, 100% of the widows pledged to serve our church body on Get in
the Game Sunday. Not only that, every single one of them signed up for at
least two places of ministry. I was beaming. These ladies could be moping,
depressed, and bemoaning their loneliness and the loss of their husbands,
but instead they are trusting the Lord and serving our church with gusto. Do
not think of these women as depressed, older ladies. NEHBC widows don't
mope. They cannot mope. They have a rare opportunity to show the world that
Jesus is life and hope even in the death of the loved one we hold most dear.
They are energetic and committed, they love the Lord, and they help each
other so much. Their ministry commitments to the NEHBC body this year
include: Sunday morning door greeters, children's ministry shepherds,
preschool ministry shepherds, singing in the chorus, stuffing Sunday morning
info guides, handling NEHBC mass mailouts, bible listeners for AWANA,
sorting inventory at Farrington Mission, and translating Spanish at
Farrington Mission. I get recharged spending time with them.
In September, we are going up to the viewing deck at the Chevron Building in
downtown Houston, the tallest five story building in the world, so we can
pray over our city and eat lunch down in the tunnel system. We hope the
outing will give us a bigger heart for our city. Love our City, Love the
World.
